What do I set the marker on at the back of a RPM Gauge?

I put a new RPM gauge in, what do I set the marker setting on back of the gauge? I have a 1984, 115HP, V4 Evinrude. I think I have it wrong or the indicator is not set on the right mark. Gauge not acting right. Cleaned all my connections both at the motor and at the gauge. Would anyone know the setting?

Test settings one by one untill tach reads correct rpm or wait till someone provides a suitable answer.

should be 6p.on back of tach if I remember correctly.

Should be set for 6 pulses or 12 poles.
