Motor is a 1995 Johnson 48 Special. Is it ok to use 2 cycle engine oil for air cooled engines sold under "Do It Best" label? It does not state TWC-3 compliance, or any other spec, but the store selling it claims it will work fine.

No, use TCW-3 oil. Your engine is not aircooled.

Re: 2 cycle oil

Not really, air cooled engines run hotter than water cooled & require differene oils. Two cycle Water Cooled - formula 3 is what you need to use in a watercooled outboard. This is formulated to work on thermoastat controled water cooled 2 cycle motors. The formula 3 is designed to be compatable with the non-leaded gasoline.
