Re: Oil...

Sierra makes it also for about $6/quart and Napa can get a lot of Sierra stuff out of their marine catalog so check their..

As you have figured out 25W40 is marine spec only. You may be able to get away with 20W50 or 15W40 but I'm not 100% sure

Re: Oil...

Things I have learned from oil threads
1. Alot of speculation and back and forth about what oil to use and what can happen if you don't use it.
2. No one could tell me on this site if they had damage or have seen damage from not using the merc oil
3. Volvo and Merc which use the same blocks spec diffent types of oil
4. You can use strait 40 weight oil
5. I would go close to the spec 15-40 I would not run somthing like 0-20
6. I prob just insited a riot by posting my thoughts on this thread.
7. Use the marine filter. Auto filters seam to filter better but allow less oil flow. I am sure there is a good reason why merc would want better oil flow over filtering.
