In a severe case, you might see some water coming through the gimbal bearing. In more 'mild' situations, you will notice the water once you pull the drive. (it usually splashes all over your sneakers, so wear an old pair
)
If you are getting some premature u-joint or gimbal bearing noise, maybe time to check the bellows and maybe pull the drive for a look.
