I have an early 80s Evinrude 25 with a lower unit that I noticed was missing a bolt. Upon further inspection, I noticed the lower is secured but not seated 100% to the rest of the motor. I attempted to adjust but still have a hair-line gap between the lower and upper where light passes between the two (and of course water when it is submerged). Is there a gasket missing here that I'm not aware of?

Here is a quick photo (light not visible through the two pieces in the photo).

Changed lower unit oil and it looked decent. Had a little lighter brown tint to it (indicating obvious moisture) but looked as what was to be expected.

No gasket there, drop the L/U clean both mating surfaces real good. put a bead of 3m-847 or similar if you like and snug bolts up good

Re: Evinrude 25 Lower Unit

Thanks for the response, kodibass. I was looking at it again today and it looks like water is supposed to trickle in that area from other openings in the upper and that the lower is sealed off below where the trouble area is. Hoping Im correct anyway. Thanks again :)
