just put in a new impellor on a '86 evinrude 20hp,put on the rabbit ears and it works like a charm on the hose.put it in the water and its intermitant then quits al together,bring it back home and attach the hose and it works like a charm.I've had the foot off twice now and can't see any obstruction or any visible reason for the problem.....any suggestions?

Check that the impeller key hasn't slipped on the drive shaft; water pressure from the hose could be circulating thru the engine and not from the impeller. While LU is off put hose against the water tube and see if you have a good flow thru the engine. Good luck.
