The tach is probably shorting out inside and causing both problems. When it shorts to ground, it kills the ignition. You can disconnect the tach and run it and see if it dies, I suspect it won't, but then you know for sure.

Replace the tach and go boating.

Gray wire on the - terminal of the coil. Or you can take it off the back of the tach.

Forgot about the color code change.
1 brown goes to the tach, the other goes to the shift interrupt switch.

Your wires are spliced together at the coil, so disconnect it behind the tach and tape the wire up temporarily so it won't touch anything, will/should be on the "S" terminal.

Will be easier to leave the coil alone.

I just cut the wires found the tach wire and cut it clean. I attached the other wire then took the dash apart and unhooked the tach..hopefully that'll be the problem..

One end or the other is all that was necessary.

Could a starter solenoid also cause this? The boat sat for a few weeks and ehen i tried to crank it up the starter got to hot and it just started clicking..let it cool down and it worked again so i didnt think nothing of it
