1975 evinrude 70hp float problem.

I just rebuilt my carbs on my motor today by a manual my buddy had. I set the float perfectly level when upside down and when its right side up from the gasket surface on the carb to the top of the float it said to set to 1 1/8 which i did. I didnt have a chance to try it out in the water yet. but i was watching a video on youtube and the guy said no more than 3/4 of an inch no more no less which one is right??

1 1/8 " is correct to the bottom of the float. It's called float drop.
