Hello all,

I am new to the forum. I have a question that may be silly, but I can not find the answer anywhere!! I have a 1966 Johnson Super Seahorse 40, Model RDS-28B. How do I know if this has the electric shift or not. It runs awesome, but It is very hard to shift and sometimes doesn't go into gear at all. Or I can get it to go into forward and not reverse. I'm trying to trouble shoot if it is just a cable problem, or if it it could be the electric shift switch. Any guidence would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Gee, does it have a shift and throttle cables, or just a throttle cable?

If it has a shift lever on the starboard side of the motor and a 2-handle shift/throttle controller, it is a manual shift motor. Electric shift won't have the shift lever and will have a pushbutton shifter.
