5.7 differences?

I have a 99 5.7 volvo fuel injected, I think 280hp? anyways I notice my last 5.7 was carb at 260hp. the 20 hp makes since. then I noticed there is a 300hp and 320 hp 5.7. So my question is what are the differences that gave extra gains (MPI, cams)? does my motor have the Vortex heads?

If your last motor was pre-1996, it was before the era of Vortec heads. Vortec heads make the biggest difference over the older engines (the reason why allot of owners of older engines opt to upgrade to Vortec heads during a rebuild). Fuel system delivery, and alterations in cam profile (if there were any) may have helped a little.

260=Carb
280=TBI
300=MPI
320=MPI + increase in max WOT rpm ECM upgrades.
