I have what I believe to be a 74 or 75 mercury 500 50hp. I got it and a boat on trade, and can't seem to figure out the proper wiring, more specifically the kill switch. On my switchbox, there are 5 terminals. The second one from the top has only 1 wire connected, could that be the problem? Please help, the wife is on me for getting a piece of junk. Thanks.

The orange wire is the ground out (kill) circurt, if you don't have spark disconnect it to make sure there is not a short in the exterior harness.

No, there is fire. I crank it up, and couldn't get it to shut off. The kill switch wasn't working. I assume I need to connect it correctly.
