Just picked up a 1957 Johnson 18 hp and a gas tank!!! today, got it home cleaned out the tank, put in new gas and oil 24-1, squired some gas/oil in the spark plug holes pulled the cord a few times,,,,more gas/oil. put the plugs in and after more then a few pulls got it running. not good but running. acts like it is flooding out.

So I am looking for a carb kit and a lower unit seal kit for this thing.

I think I have found a carb kit with the float. #0398523

Can't seem to find a lower unit seal kit for a 1957

ANYBODY know what the part # is for the lower unit seal kit and/or where I can get one?

I can order the part that I need separately at marineEngine.com but I don't need 40" Spaghetti Seal at $8.15.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

THANKS:joyous:

I would need to know your serial number first. The kits changed mid year in 1957

Im fairly certain you should have the superseeded prop shaft seal in yours, but you may want to pull it first and measure to verify. I have sold others the seal kit for what SHOULD have been in, only to find out later it was the other.

If you have the 302495 seal, it is NLA by Sierra so you cannot get a kit for it. If it has the 313284 seal, you can get a seal kit.

The 302495 seal will be 1.254"OD, and the 313284 seal will be smaller at 1.128"OD

If you have the smaller seal, you will need seal kit 18-2684 available here at iboats. The earlier assembly is exactly the same, except for the prop shaft seal.

Thanks Chris, I think I will just order the carb kit for now and take the lower unit apart and see what I have.

Thanks again!!!
