so I look on my boat now and it has a filter on it now that doesnt seem to exist..
its a purolator ML 20713, but when I google it, doesnt seem to think it exists..

so I guess I'll replace it.. but not sure what to replace it with.. I see lots of
questions for oil filters and people answering.. where do you find the xref
to find what engine needs what ? service manual or is there some site I
can find this stuff on.. I checked the mercruiser site but didnt find much..

any help is appreciated..

but the first thing I want to replace is the oil filter.. thanks

Walmart sells a Quicksliver oil filter that fits most Mercruisers. For $8 why not get the factory part locally?

Does your engine have the standard Chevy block filter, or a remote filter. They are different on a V6, unlike a V8

Oh, and you only have about half of your serial number listed. Doesn't help at all.

Engine Serial number is the first step. Check with your local dealer. Get a Mercruiser filter and then see if WIX/Fleetgard or another reputable company has a crossover. Lots of times the OEM filter will be price competitive.

I use a NAPA Gold 1036 filter on my 97 4.3L merc. $7 at your local NAPA Auto Parts. High quality filter.

That doesn't mean anything, we don't know if he has a block mounted or remote mounted filter. Your reply has a 50% chance of being wrong.

Correct Don. Mine is block mounted so if his is block mounted here's my input. If not, maybe it will help someone else.

ok Serial on the ail filter top says OL 837594.. I was looking at the serial number on my insurance info.. since it
was next to me..

says its powered by GM..

the oil filter is on the back bottom right of the engine.. never worked in a OI engine before.. is a remote
oil filter like somewhere really accessible ? Mine appears to be engine mounted.. but there is some
good space in the rendezvous its it.. so I can get to it..

Mine is in the same spot (port side at the bottom). Not the most convenient but I make sure to put a bunch of towels in the bilge before I unscrew it.

Putting the new filter on is cake. Make sure to put a coating of fresh oil on all sides/surfaces of the new filter gasket to make a good seal and to make it easier to get off.

The Mercruiser PN for that filter is 41815. Using that number you should be able to convert it to any filter.

Dealer parts program is where I got the info from. The service manuals don't give part numbers for parts.

You can go to the link below to look up your parts.
https://webapps.brunswick.com/literature/literatureSearch.do

You will need to type in your serial number of your ENGINE, the one you posted is for your outdrive, not your engine. And don't put spaces in the SN either.

Cross ref to Merc 41815 / NAPA 1036 for practically every filter made:
