I just bought a classic fifty and the other day i had it runnin great off a hose took it to the lake and it died wouldnt crank without the choke and would soon die. I brought it home and it wouldn't crank without the choke and wouldnt continuously run without fast idle. I figured start with some fresh gas and seafoam well that didnt work so i am at the point of cleaning the carbs my question is would i have to adjust the carbs once theyre cleaned and if so how exactly do i do this i understand where the screws are for top and bottom but i just am not 100% on the adjusting part.

Secondly, I figured to do a compression test as well before i took the carbs apart what PSI and i looking to get on this outboard?

Its a 1988 mercury classic fifty 45hp

Yes there are adjusting screws, it's more then knowing to start at about a turn out it's being able to listen to a feel the engine to get them properly adjusted. Compression should be within 10% from high cyl to low. Over 100.
