getting upset with water pump install

trying to slide water pump body down water pump gear shaft (94 johnson 40hp 2-stroke). can't seem to get the assembled pump body over the drive pin on the shaft. any tips on this procedure? thanks....Bill

a little grease or vasoline to hold the pin. then i spot the impeller over the pin as i slide the pump housing down. once the impeller is in, then just rotate the housing for the screw holes.

As another option= I put the impeller on and then slide the housing down. Once housing is just above impeller i turn the driveshaft clockwise and check all fins bend/go into housing as i push it down. Once down, align with the bolt holes
