1980 E35ECSM Gear case nut thread?

I lost the gear case nut on my 1980 35hp, the one threaded on the stud in the gear case in front. I'm going to just pick one from a store instead of ordering it as a part and waiting. Any idea what thread the stud has, 5/16 UNF?

I believe it is 5/16 fine thread (24 tpi). Get a stainless nut and a split lock washer.
