Shifter / control feels very stiff and harsh...help needed

I just installed a brand new control box and cables thinking I would get a much smoother feel and the shift / throttle still feels very rough. Both throttle and shift is bad...shift is a bit worse. When I disconnect the cables at the motor the shift and throttle feel very smooth so i know the problem isn't with the control or cables or install.What could the problem be? Motor issue? Linkage?

Control box: Teleflex ch-1752 with 18' teleflex cables

Symptoms seem like a bad cable to me.

is your linkage well lubricated with a marine grade lubricant (not WD40)?

Nothing meaningful to contribute here, but I have to say that's an unfortunate name there OP. I think I'd probably be broke if I lived in CA also.

It does seem like a cable is bad but they're brand new and again, when I disconnect them at the motor the shifter and cables move extremely smooth.

I lubed all linkage with a marine grease.

The motor is an 1997 Evinrude Ocean Pro 150hp

There's a lot to be said for the truth. There doesn't seem to be enough of that to go around anymore.
