I am considering getting a newer (1995+) motor for my aluminum fishing boat. Found a 1995 6 hp Mercury & 2001 15 hp Johnson. Was wondering what the approximate dry weight of each is?? Wasn't sure if there was a considerable difference or not.

what kind of boat is this going on to start? are they 2strokes or 4 stroke? because that would make a difference in weight. just to give you an idea i have a 12' gregor aluminum with a 2000 15hp johnson 2 stroke that weighs 78lbs. it pushes the boat 15 mph when its fully loaded down. i had a 9.5 early 70's model 2 stoke johnson that seemed like it pushed the boat a little faster but i didnt have the gps hooked up back then, i loved that motor but it finally quit on me

6 hp merc 2 stroke, 69#

15 hp Johnson, 2 stroke, 74-82# depending on model.

Thanks for the responses! king salami....I am looking at 2 strokes & I have a 13' Blue Fin, so I think I will go with the biggest I can. Would rather have the power & not need it as opposed to needing the power & not having it! The 15 hp Johnson I am looking at is a 2001, so it would be a similar set up as yours. Thanks again.

Exactly,As I've said many times::You don't here people saying"I wish I had less horsepower."
By the way the OMC 9.9 and 15 are the same weight.

Not long ago we had a guy that was downsizing for some reason and said that he could live with it. I couldn't help but jump on that. You know as well as I do, if you never had something that's one thing. But to have had it and not have it you just keep lusting for it. Grin.
