Hi there, had a couple quick questions maybe someone would have a few ideas about. Last fall I got a new to me '77 Johnson 70 it works great except for one detail. Sometimes when I go to plane out ,within a minute or two from a cold start, and I throw the throttle down my motor seems like it can't catch up or is loosing power and stalls. Also this happens at very low rpms right around idle speed. I don't have a tach attached to the motor and am still learning. Could the cause be gummed up carbs or something blocking a jet? Or does it sound like a more serious issue? Aside from this it works like a champ, good pressure and no misses. Thanks for any help you may have.

Yep could be a carb
could be old hoses putting debris into the carbs
Cleaning carbs is a good place to start

Alrighty, going to order rebuild kits.Next question is Sierra or Mallory? There's a whopping $1.80 difference. Is one more reliable?
