I have a 2001 Mercury 225hp optimax on a Ranger 205SVS. At WOT the highest RPM I got was 4700 and 47mph. The prop is a 26pitch. The mercury smartcraft gauge has a fuel symbol blinking(there is plenty of gas in the tank) and the bell is blinking as well. This is my first boat with a smartcraft gauge and do not have a manual so I don't know what the symbols mean and not sure if it's related to the loss of RPMs. The boat starts easy and idles fine(approx 600 RPMS at idle). Any idea what might be the cause?

You may have water in the fuel filter. Look at the filter on the motor, the filter has a wire in the bottom.
Replace the filter, and when you take the old one off, empty it in a clear container and see how much water is in it.
