Okay this may get the newbie question of the day, I have been working the sterndrive of my restoration. I was dryfitting the gimbal housing and inner transom plate. I took a look at the lower exhaust pipe and found that the gimbal has 5 threaded holes while my pipe only has 4. So, what gives, do I leave a hole empty? I have the 3.0L 181 GM it is a 1989 Model. I bought the package from a donor so I am pretty sure that it is the right part, also verified here Mercruiser.com

I guess I can post some pictures if needed but I get the sinking feeling that this is probably common knowledge.

Suggestions?

That's right, 5 screw holes. And only 4 in the V engine exhaust pipe. That's because the in-line engines use a single pipe and the screws are in different places, so instead of making a different gimbal housing for the V and in-line engines, they just make one that has the holes for either exhaust pipe.
