reverse rotation cobra out drive help

can someone please tell me on my twin engine chris craft what side the reverse rotation out drive is supposed to go on?
I have had a few people tell me it is on the wrong side as of now, it on the right side, if u are standing at back of boat looking forward!
Any info would be great!!!!

Ayuh,.... That debate has been goin' on, since the 1st time someone spun a twin backwards...

Truth is,.... It DON'T Matter....

but my left engine is over heating, and wonderin ig its a outdrive issue

So aside from asking your original question.....what diagnoses have you done to find the overheat cause?

What year?
The early OMC Cobras,I don't think they had a reverse rotation??
The later Volvo mix did.
If it's the later Volvo mix it won't mater what side it goes on.
I think.It changes rotation in the drive not the motor.
Under the rear cover is where you change the direction.

Model# serial#s
OMC/ Volvo combo?

Overheat, again the year?
Profile,location? Salt water? Fresh water?
Does it overheat quick? Or take some time./

Better description of the symptoms?

ther are 1992 cobra out drives, one of the shafts has a ro stampped on end, motors are 92 351'sver heats slow, and hoas new pump in out drive!

any ideas?

For what it's worth, here is a picture from an original OMC brochure, regarding the rotation of two opposite drives.Cobra_2.jpg

Have you tried to unhook the hose at the thermostat housing and start the engine? From the hose, there should come a lot of water (a bucketfull before you can say snap, almost....) even at idle.

REMEMBER TO PLUG THE HOLE ON THE THERMOSTATHOUSING BEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE, OTHERWISE WATER WILL SPRAY ALL OVER THE PLACE!

If nothing comes or just a splash now and then, the cupper pipe between the upper and lower housing is leaking.

According to Horizonbluedk's picture the counter rotating drive should be on the left. As bond-o said though it really doesn't matter. What does matter is that the props are on correctly so forward is forward and reverse is reverse at the throttle. Other than that it won't make a bit of difference. They will cancel out each others torque no mater which side they're on.

On the 92,depending on the serial#,(alwauys post serial#'s and model#'s)
they were the cone/clutch(like the Volvo) so it wouldn't matter what side.
The overheat could be a bad riser,manifold,thermostat.
A slow overheat is usually a restriction in the riser,manifold.
92,it's 21 years old,how old are the manifold and risers?
If original,they probably need to be replaced.
Salt or fresh?? Profile,location? You might be close to someone who can help.

And also, the 584DPEAMH too!

Additionally, those are the models you DEFINITELY WANT TO STAY AWAY FROM
