87-88 mariner 100 idles ruff sometimes and only at low speed.

I have a 87-88 mariner 100 that runs good until you idle in gear for a minute then it will idle ruff like a miss or cut out some times the neutral idle will be ruff not all the time thou.

Sound like carb or electrical problem, check spark on all 4 cylinders when it starts idling rough. You will need a timing light and a air gap spark tester. Use the light when its running and see if you have spark dropping on a cylinder.

it is doing fine on spark if I tilt it up it will clear up.
