Check if they have the same powerhead to lower unit gasket part for starters, then check out the driveshaft

First thing to do is check out the size of the bolts that hold the P/H to the exhaust housing.

The part numbers for the crankcase assemblies, adapter plate, and adapter plate to power head gasket are different for the two years. I would check that out carefully before you purchase. Beyond that, I have no experience with those motors.
