72 johnson 9.5 in great shape is overheating, good thermo, good pump / impeller, clean as a whistle inside, it looks like its not had much water run through it at all. it starts to spray some water then stops. i took off the exhaust cover and could not find a spec of blockage. thanks

Your impeller looks as though it should be replaced as it has a permanent set (curve) to it. Is the drive pin which holds the impeller to the drive shaft in place? How much water did you have in your barrel? The water level should be well up the lower unit well above the water pump. Your motor does look like it hasn't pumped much water over it's lifetime. Best of luck. Rick.

Make sure there is not a piece of an old impeller that has broken off and stuck someplace up the tube, if it starts to spray then stops either something is blocking it or the thermostat is not staying open even if it looks good.
