have 1994 johnson 40hp. bot a complete water pump kit. going by a sealoc manual says to use adhesive sealant on the o-ring, driveshaft o-ring,housing grommet, sealing compound on gasket, and the four mounting bolts. guy behind counter at gone fishing marine says no sealants needed. if needed what adhesive sealant, sealing compound should i use? i'm presuming thread sealer,(not the permanent type) for the bolts. maybe marine silicone ffor the others?
thanks for any help....Bill

Re: water pump help

Go by what the manual says and not what the guy behind the counter says.

Yep go by the manual, i always coat the bolts for example, no questions asked.
I use a permatex gasket maker compound normally, its called permatex aviation form a gasket. You can probably use many gasket selaers so long as they are oil/water resistant. I dont use the permatex gasket one which hardens, i think its called either permatex one or two ,it doesnt seem to adhere as well underwater i find

Re: water pump help

I put a touch of grease on the driveshaft splines up the top. Just a touch and nothing really on the top. Careful on that as too much can cause problem
