I own a 1990 mercruiser 4.3 and this past weekend I took her out of storage to start it up in the driveway. It started up great on the first try but after running about a min or so I noticed the RPMS jump up between 2000-3000. The engine still was idling just the same and the sound of it didn't change at all. Am I burning off some old gas or maybe burning off the fogging spray?? Is this somewhat normal until I take her out and open the engine wide open? Thanks in advance for any input

If the tach jumped up to 2-3000 rpm and the engine didn't change, you have a tach problem, not an engine problem.

Thanks. I was wondering if that was the issue. Can a bad tach cause problems with the way the engine runs or will I just get wrong rpm readings?
