1978 Merc 1400 Trim Rams

Hey Guys!

Well I've finally got myself one of these awesome 6 cylinder Mercs. It's a 1978 1400 140HP. Anyways, I've been doing some searching tonight and I coming up with some conflicting results. I need a Trim Ram rebuild kit. One of my trim rams leak, so I want to do it right and rebuild them both at the same time. Problem is I keep finding different kits with different parts. Can anyone link me to the correct trim ram rebuild kit?

Here's a parts break down if you do not need the slipper rings the parts can be purchased a a hydraulic repair shop for about $10 a cyl. If you do need the slippers here's a better price. :: iShopMarine.com ::

Should I replace the slipper rings if I want this rebuild to last?

You need a special tool to replace the teflon piston seal.

If the motor leaks oil externally, it is the orings. If the motor trims down on it's own w/o an external leak, the teflon seals are likely bad. BTW - you can disassemble the cylinder leaving the piston installed in the cylinder (the cylinder is a steel liner), and replace all the orings, without disturbing the piston seal.
