I have a 1974 Johnson, 70 hp. I think? 70ESL-74M is what the plate says. I want to install a pee hole on it. I am fixing to install a new water pump, so I figure why not. I have a 1/8" npt x 5/16" hose barb 90. where should I install it? In the plate on the side of the engine? Pics or links would be most helpful. I also am thinking about a temp gauge? do you all think that necessary? Thanks

Take a look here: OMC 9.9 - 15hp Lots of great info!

Temp gauge wouldn't be necessary in my opinion.

Thanks, I will check out the link. I found some info in frequently asked questions. Also found out about my model number. Except for the M at the end? Wonder what that means? And the absence of an R after ESL?

sorry.. I sent the link to 9.9/15hp's.. Don't go by that for your indicator hose placement. Someone will chime in w/info on your 70hp..
