prop shaft seals

I have an MC1 drive. I have had oil dripping out of the water hole near the bottom of the leg. I am replacing the water pump and base. I managed to extract the shift shaft bushing (yay) and will replace that along with a new shift shaft. The old one was the steel one and is corroded. I know I need to do a pressure test and am currently making up a tester. My question is can you replace the prop shaft seals without removing the bearing carrier? It looks like you should be able to extract the seals and them make a tube type driver to knock them in place.

Remove the carrier, doing it your way will surley damage the propshaft.
