Force 35 not pumping water - water pump impeller seems ok

Today I finally got my Force 35 started.

First thing I looked for was water coming out of the exhausts to see if the water pump was working. There was no water. I took thermostat cover off to see if water was being pumped (the Force does not have a thermostat). I saw some traces of water there because it was a little bit wet.

Being concerned I took the lower unit off and checked the impeller. The impeller looked fine. I put everything back and restarted. Once again, no water from the exhaust and barely wet when I took off the thermostat cover.

Does anyone have any ideas? I took an air hose and blew everything out and there is no obstructions. Should I just replace the impeller anyway?

Thank you for reading my post.

Are you deep enough in a barrel emulating being in the lake? I learned I could be 2? higher and not pump cooling water.

Hi wickware,

I have the water just above the cavitation plate. On my Force 50, it didn't have any issues spitting out water at that depth. Maybe I need to find a really deep barrel to test.

Well, I went out and filled a 30 gallon barrel and tried it again. And it pumps. I guess that says it, I learned something new today. Thank you, wickware.

Are you deep in a 55 gallon with the water as high as can be? 2? higher stored on jack stands my 1970 35 HP w/n flow until I added 2X4s etc under the barrel. It came to me that was a 1st not to flow and a 1st on the jackstands.

BOW GUY,you shoud start your own thread.
Include the serial# and model, year HP.
You sure the pickup tube is going back in the pump housing?
The rubber gromet or seal still there?
Is it deep enough in the water?
Pump/impeller.Pics?

Hi bow guy,

I had a similar issue and blew my 50 HP due to overheating. On mine the thermostat was seized closed.

Check the thermostat.

this thread is about 35 force motors, I simply asked for help with same issue self. I was not HiJacking noobe's thread. I was just bumping the thread.... with a similar question.

Did you check the stuff that was suggested?

If you do happen to have same Force 35 I have, then there is no thermostat.

Yes I did..There is a place for a thermostat but there was not one there. I ordered one and it came today along with a new gasket, Impeller and water tube seal.
