Which Evinrude should I buy? 1977 25 HP or 1976 15 HP

I can have the 25 HP for $650 or the 15 HP for $550. My boat max engine size says 20 HP so I'd be alittle over going with the 25, but any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

i would choose 15hp, less fuel consumption

Do you think a 15HP would allow me to plane a 1654 Landau flatbottom?

I'd go for the 25 HP but would offer $550 or $600 IF it was in great shape and working... Too many out there to buy a motor and then have to rebuild it too...at least for those prices.

I'd go with the the 25 HP 'cause it has a better ignition system.

I'd opt for the 15. Should plane your boat just fine w/2 people, much better on fuel, idles wicked slow for trolling.. much slower than the 25 will. You may need to clean up/reset the points on the 15, and use B7HS NGK plugs gapped to .030"... should be good to go for many years. Also, depending on the mood of your local conservation officer, you can get a ticket for an 'unsafe' HP on your boat if you use the 25hp on a boat rated for 20 max..
