I have a no spark condition and took it to the local Tohatsu service center. They are pretty sure the exciter coil is bad. The problem is that you can't tell if the CDI or other parts are bad unless you have a functioning exciter, so I might need more than just the exciter.

Found out the exciter (p/n 350-06021) is discontinued.

EDIT

I'd like to replace multiple parts of the ignition system and get some spares if possible.

A lot of these parts are common over many years and models, even older Mercury's, but I don't know the cross reference part numbers.

I want to keep the engine. Has electric start and otherwise runs like new.

Thanks

Start with the salvage yards listed in the Engine FAQs.

Please review our rules about soliciting. Thanks for your cooperation. :)

Whip out your Factory service manual. Use it as a guide to test with your analog (not digital) ohm meter, and diagnose the bad part. Whoever told you that they cannot test the CD without a good exciter is mistaken.

Done. Exciter coil is bad.

Now I just need to find a replacement. No luck so far.

Do you have a B2 or a D2 model?

Problem Solved -

CDI Electronics is going to remanufacture the old parts. You do not have to buy old junk from a salvage yard and hope it works. They will remanufacture any part that has been discontinued. I am having the Exciter Coil and Pulser Coil remanufactured.

Tohatsu Guru - my motor is a 9.9B2 long shaft electric start. The motor is sweet. No way am I going to junk it, ever.

Maybe you can put a post in the sticky's that there is a solution for people who have older Tohatsu's and Nissans to get electrical parts.

I love the motor too. Unfortunately with no carb parts available and the electronics disappearing it's day's are numbered. CDI often say's they can do something, but the results can sometimes be a little off. If they get you one that works come back and post a positive result.
