Will your trolling motor batterys last longer if you start on 12 volt and later switch to 24 volt,or just start on 24 volt and run 24 volt all day on low speed?

Re: trolling motor life

I would think that given any battery that has X numbers of current (amperage) available for X number of hours (Amp/hour capacity) then however you decide to use up that amount is how long the battery will last. For example a battery that has 100 amp/hour capacity would be 10 amps for 10 hours or 100 amps for 1 hour. So using those figures, you can use that capability however you choose. The best way to get your batteries to last longer is to have a Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) circuit installed AND use the lowest possible speed to get the job done... Some high end trolling motors have such a circuit to help with battery life...

if all things are equal in a lab test then 24v will last a fraction longer doing the same work load.
