I would think that given any battery that has X numbers of current (amperage) available for X number of hours (Amp/hour capacity) then however you decide to use up that amount is how long the battery will last. For example a battery that has 100 amp/hour capacity would be 10 amps for 10 hours or 100 amps for 1 hour. So using those figures, you can use that capability however you choose. The best way to get your batteries to last longer is to have a Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) circuit installed AND use the lowest possible speed to get the job done... Some high end trolling motors have such a circuit to help with battery life...
