1981 280 prop shaft seal

I'm new ower of a 1981 skipjack with a volvo 280 and found that the prop shaft seal is leaking. My question is how big of a job is this ?. Can't find much info on this repair.

If your not mechanically inclined, and don't have any tool or know how to use them, it's a huge job, and I have no clue what your abilities are or what tools you have. So that question is un-answerable.

The info you want is in the service manual. Wonder why DIYers never get one, the pros do............

Just giving you grief, look at the manual, then ask what you don't understand.

I'm mechanically inclined,but new to these I/O's. Have a ton of tools,but guess I need a few special tools.Thanks for the info and download info.

Some of the special tools aren't needed, so ask before you go buying things you don't really need.

So I tried removing prop shaft,but it wont come out. Used slidehammer,heat and even made a puller,still wont move at all.I think this boat spent alot of time in saltwater. Any ideas how to remove ?

volvo tools.jpgA tool like this will help.
It can be made of thick plywood or stock steel.
