engine keeps running after turning off the key. is this normal? should i look into a new key switch or what. engines runs great starts up just fine. 1986 evinrude 90 hp with vro removed

Definitely not normal and not good for the engine if its going up against a half short.
See if you can trace the kill wire in the wiring in the engine and short it out there if that works then its your switch or cable
