I would like to get a two speed winch for my boat. It is on a bunk trailer and the boat is about 7K. What size should I get?

get a one-speed power winch; go to their website or other info and get their recommended size.

The only thing I don't like about that is dealing with a battery all of the time. I am only 32 so cranking is not an issue for me for another few years :) But even if I did go the power winch route which one of those should I get?

My boat is close in weight to yours and I have a Fulton 2 speed winch on the trailer. No problems getting it on the trailer and I'm twice your age. :joyous: A lot of it comes down to the ramps your using too. I only have to really crank a little harder the last 3 feet or so.
If you do decide to go with a hand crank one get a two speed one.

Match the size you have now, except get a two speed. If you a 2000 lb. now, get a 2000 lb. two speeder.

When looking at Electric winches, be sure to check the specs at how fast it winches Under Load.
Some can take 10 minutes to pull in 20 feet of strap!

I am partial to the Fulton F2.
It comes in 1600,2000 and 3200#.
THe difference is in the gearing, The frame is the same on all of three.

1600 = 4:1
2000 = 5:1
3200 = 5:1 and 16:1 Planetary Gear drive

You can expect to be pulling 35% (25% slope and 10% Friction) of the boats weight with the winch.
35% of 7000# = 2450#. A 2000# winch may be pushing it.

No one ever complained their winch was too easy to crank! :lol:

Here's what I've got hauling my Regal 245xl cruiser (weighing in at 7500lbs loaded up) onto my pig of a trailer:

I just bought the boat at the end of last summer. By the rust that has begun on the winch, I guess I would put it at at least 2 years of age and still ticking nicely. It takes a little elbow grease to operate, but not too bad (I'm also 32).
