So I solved my starter issue, motor fired right up...but no water from the tell tale. Ran it less than 10 seconds, hopefully didn't hurt anything.

I guess it's time to replace the impeller. It's been about 3 years. Should I do the full water pump kit, or just the impeller?

Also, for removing the LU, I guess I need a "thin wall socket". The regular socket set I have does not fit. Is a thin wall socket something that is generally available in an auto parts store, or is this a specialty OMC tool?

Get the kit! Anytime you break open the housing of the water pump the seals also need replacing! The kit also come with other parts within the pump that wears out and loses efficiency over time. You should be able to get thin wall sockets just about anywhere that sells tools, but for sure at an auto parts store! Hope that helps!
