Is a 1995 Johnson 112 really a stripped down 115?

I'm looking at a 1995 Johnson 112 crossflow, model J112TSLEO for sale. Is this really just a 115 without VRO? What other differences are there, ie charging system, etc.? It has power tilt / trim. Would they have produced a motor with 3 less HP or was it just a marketing trick? It is very clean, 125 lb. compression on all cyls., clean gear oil, runs good on muffs. If I buy I'll rebuild carbs and replace water pump as I don't know when they were done before. Any other thoughts on these motors, good or bad? I have a '97 90 HP crossflow that has been very good to me.
Thanks.

In essence, yes, the 112 is the 115. Good motors, should have similar reliability as your 90...

The 112 is a factory-marketed "low-cost" 115. The 112 does not come with the VRO system (uses the inexpensive pre-mix pump) and I believe power trim was optional. Other than that, it's a 115. Same with the 88 that was offered in the same time frame-it's really a 90.
