What engine or drive fit my current setup.

Can i change my volvo 270 leg for a newer volvo unit with power trim and steer. If so what are my options. I was going to swap out the whole power and drive train to mercruiser but after some good advice from iboats i realised that was a bad move. Just wondering for future reference. I currently have the volvo aq170 with 270 leg.

On a boat that was for sale some time ago, I saw a 290 drive mated to the AQ170 6 cyl engine. Yes, I saw it IRL. The old transom was off course replaced with the matching 290. Some of the early 290 drives had coarse splines in the universal joint, so those will fit the drive shaft in the bell housing of the AQ 170. But the exhaust is the problem. I didn't see how this was made, but a custom made solution is necessary.

If you want to keep the AQ 170 and have powertrim, I think that's the only solution. There was also a 280 transom shield with powertrim. They seem to be quite rare and many parts are probably obsolete, so my advice is; don't go that way.

However, swapping the 270 setup for a 290, is not done on a weekend.......
