Just getting deep into the searay 270 this weekend. Engines out , gimbals off ,, lots of replacement items coming. and long over due they are! Thought id share a little .. and see how many others are running TR/TRS drives. I like it! :)

1983 Searay 270DA
Merc Single 454, 330HP B/W TR Drive.

Looks much better! I need to get off my butt and paint my Stringer drive but they are such a pain to paint.

Ahh ,, I use to have a old stringer 3 boats ago!

Got the gimbal all off to repair the steering slop .. and the entire gimbal is so far gone .. im just going to replace the entire thing with a clean used unit. , bell housing pivot bolts came out with the threads ., and the gimbal ring has a crack.. off to the scrap pile for that stuff! More pics coming as more parts come!!

I also tried out VHT epoxy paint ,, will see how that holds up for the season.

Ok , so i got my "new to me" gimbal assembly ,, while in great condition as corrosion had 1 stubborn pivot pin. took me a while today .. and got it free ,, and everything is ready for wash ,, sand and paint!

after drilling out the pivot pin .. i am thinking .. if the right size drill bit is used .. and centered well,, you could drill enough to separate the threaded end, from the drive/pivot end.. just my thoughts .. as i was a touch smaller .. and after a bit the little that was left snapped off .. and free it all was..more pics coming soon! .. shooting to be on the water mid may!
