1990 Johnson 40 or 50 hp?

I recently bought a 1989 tracker pro 17 the motor on it says it's a 60 but it's only a 2 cylinder so my guess is that it's only a 40 or 50. Is there any way to determine what this motor is? And I should mention it has been repainted and all the model number stickers are gone so it's not that easy. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Johnson did make a 60 hp 2 cylinder.

Look on the engine for a silver (aluminum) welsh plug, that has the model number stamped into it.

I did not know they made a 60hp 2 cyl. Thanks, but as for the plug. I see on top of the motor where the plug should be but there is nothing there. Looks like it was also removed.

Look on the transom bracket for the serial number plate.

No luck. I can't find anything on the outside of the motor that identifies it

Lol at least with all the #s gone I'll probably never know. I just wanted to find out a little more info just on case I needed to get parts or something

If you do think it is a 1989 Tracker, do you also think it was the original engine that was sold on that boat? If so you could possible go online (iboats engine parts section) and look up every '89 60 HP engine to see which one looked like yours and go from there. Do you know if it is a Johnson, Evinrude or what? That could help tim down the options too...

When I bought it the guy told me it was a 1990 Johnson. But I was looking at it today and noticed the old evinrude symbol under the paint on the front of the top cover. Maybe they are interchangeable covers? I don't know.
