greetings all.

i was flushing my motor after the last trip and noticed a film of oil on the back of the leg. it had been running down the crack formed by the two halves of the leg shell and also covering the area above the stabilizer fin above the prop.

it was quite faint as it had been washed by the water flowing past the leg while the boat was in use but if i had to guess i would say it has a blue/green hue to it. (not black and sticky)

i am guessing it is a gearbox seal (shaft) but cannot discount unburnt 2 stroke oil as i opened the thottle up to full on the return trip. i would presume the unburnt oil would have a slight blackness to it.

here is the clincher.... i recently had the water pump impellor replaced and have read that it can leak gearbox oil if the water pump backing plate seal is damaged.

has anyone got any ideas as to what this is most likely to be?
time for mechanic to fix and approx price of seals.

cheers
ryan
