Gas tank cleaning.

I have two of the old five gallon merc gas tanks on my boat. I would like to clean them out from time to time. Can I flush them with water and let them dry real well? What is recommended?

I've cleaned gas tanks out with mineral spirits and even soap and water as well before. If you turn them upside down and/or use an air hose to blow them out, I don't see any problems. I've done it lots of times without one problem ever.
