I'v verified the compression on my '64 Mercury 650 to be 150-150-150-150 so it's worth going forward with. Next up is an impeller/ water pump kit so when I try to get it running, it actually cools ( impeller is over 12 years old and OB has not run in that time )..
Checking Iboats, they only list 65hp 3cyl's for the full kit, but do list an impeller for the 65hp 4cyl and that P/N matches the larger 4 and 6cyl motors. Would it be safe to buy the kit that matches the larger 4cyl/6cyl outboards? Is a Sierra branded kit/ impeller ok to use, or does it need to be OEM Mercury Marine?
