hi guys

new to the site and all i have to say is there is so much information here its amazing

I live in rhode island

I have a 1990 starcraft mariner 18' (completley rebuilt) try and get pictures up later

boat is used 3/4 time salt in the bay and 1/4time in the lakes

It has a 60 merc (1990) 20" shaft on it...motor runs strong but thinking of repowering

Currently

W O T 30 kts with little gear 1 person

drops down significantly with family on board (wife, 2 kids and lab, gear) to 20 wot

to say the least it burns a LOT of fuel

plate says max 120hp

would like to go with a 4 stroke, but concerned about the weight of the motor/torque of 4 stroke/transom

got recmmemdations of yami 90 ,yami 115, and etechs

dont know what to do

what would you recommend repowering with?

thanks guys

Re: 1990 18 mariner complete rebuilt picture

Have had 65 hp on 18'ers. marginal.

Had a 90 on my 18 mariner, great.

Now have a Merc 115 on it, all smiles.

If your transom is solid, it will handle a 4 stroke.

I have my 115, an electric troller, and an 85# 15 hp hanging on mine.

Most important is to support the motors so as they do not bounce or oscillate when on the trailer.

My first choice would be an Etec. 2nd would be a Yammie 4 stroke.
