I have a 225ho etec motor, love boat and motor. This past week I was on the water and the lower unit went south. I took it in to a certified evinrude dealer for them to check it out. They opened oil plugs and black burnt oil with metal shavings shot out about ten feet. They asked the normal questions of if I had hit something etc.. The skeg and prop have no marks at all super clean. The motor is a 2012 and has only 41 hours on it. Has anyone else had any problems with a new lower unit like this. Warrenty will cover this but wow,,,rented a house boat and planed to fish for a week and this really ruined some great plans. I was just wondering if this is a common evinrude problem or was mine just a freak deal.. thanks,,,

Sounds like a bearing went out in the L/U causing a lot of pressure to blow the oil out that way. Seen it happen. It can happen to any type of outboard, Yamaha, Merc and ect.
