I have a 1999 procraft 180 combo. On the passenger side under the windshield, there is a storage area that looks like a very large glove box. Upon investigation, there is a drain hose that goes from the glove box to outside of the hull. Not sure that a glove box would have a drain hose in it. What is the purpose of this storage compartment?

You answered your own question. You called it a storage area. Storage areas may or may not have a drain to eliminate any water that may get in there and damage the contents. Without a picture we don't know if access is front the front or top, or whether it has a cover or not. If the floor of this compartment angles toward the bow, water would collect there -- hence the drain.

It sounds like it's made to be used as a cooler.

My Nitro 188 sport has the same deal and came with a plug for the drain. I found that water would get in it from the live well system if the plug wasn't in. I think it may be able to double as a bait box for minnows or something.
