Great forum. Just signed up obviously.

I am looking at getting a 2006 Mercury 25ELH 2 stroke. Serial number is 1B233754.

According to the seller, this motor was one of the last built in the USA. How do I check?

Could it be a Tohatsu? Where would I look for the plate with the serial number? I am going to look at it later today or tomorrow.

Thanks in advance.

Well, I must assume the motor is actually a 2005 after doing more research.

Looks like 2005 was the last year for US made 25 hp 2 stroke Mercs.

Seller insists its a 2006 though. Can the Merc and Tohatsu gurus chime in here?

Yammy design and assembled in USA..any block without a bolt on head is Yammy/Merc

Thanks Gerry and Fatzbullet.

The motor is now mine. Pick it up this week.

I have a service manual on order but it is R02 instead of R03. I assume those are revison numbers?

So its the same as a Seapro, but I thought Seapros were made by Tohatsu. And the Seapro has side shift and mine has tiller shift? I am confused.

Will mine have the restrictor gasket like the Seapro that I can remove and turn it into a 30 hp?

Mercury only used the power heads made by Tohatsu and Yamaha on their engines, not the whole outboard.

And what's the big deal about who made it? You aren't planning on buying parts from Tohatsu were you?

No big deal. Just wondered if I could do the 25 - 30 hp gasket mod. I don't think I can. Was talking to a dealer and he told me my US made 25 would be as fast as a the Sea Pro 30 2-stroke anyway.

Another question. I am not a fan of the tiller shift. Can I just add the Merc shift lever on the side or is there more to it?

Do you guys think a Mercury 30 hp 2 stroke made by Tohatsu would be faster than the US made 25 Merc? It seems to have bigger displacement at 430cc versus 400cc. But the gear ratios are different too.
