So I am keeping my eye out for a spare drive. Someday I could hit a rock or whatever, and I like to have a spare drive kicking around. Right now I have a DP-A drive. Would a AQ290 be a bolt up replacement? What about a 270 drive? Some guy is selling a working 290 drive for $200. If not, what are bolt up replacements that I could keep an eye out for?

Keep in mind, the 290 can also be a single prop drive, and single and DP drives also have different gear ratio's. If you are looking at a DP290, it needs to be a 1.95:1 gear ratio. If single prop, you want a 1.61:1 ratio

You can use a DP290, DP-A or DP-B series drives. All have 1.95:1 ratio available.

The 290 drive has a gear ratio of 1.61:1. So essentially, I could unbolt my DP-A drive, and bolt that 290 drive right up? I could end up buying a spare drive and never need it but I am the kind of guy that would rather have it and never need it, than need it and not have it...

Oh and just to be clear, I am talking about just the drive. Not the transom shield or anything else.

That is what I figured you were talking about.
